We are well aware that similar dental emergencies can occur at any time, especially at the most inconvenient times. When these conditions occur, call the dentist immediately to make an appointment. We will also give you tips on how to care for damaged teeth.

Immediate care for teeth with gaps

  • If the debris or crack causes bleeding, press the bleeding site with gauze or a clean paper towel for 10 minutes.
  • On the outside of the mouth closest to the tooth, stick the lips or cheeks with an ice pack. This will reduce pain and swelling.
  • If the tooth hurts too much, take an over-the-counter painkiller and rinse with salt water to prevent infection.
  • If the gap is sharp enough, you may chip your tongue and cover it with a tooth adhesive to prevent cuts. You can find dental adhesives in most pharmacies.
  • If you have to eat, avoid eating hard or crisp foods and avoid chewing with broken teeth. Chewing things will not only hurt, but will further damage the chip.
